Jane McNamara started McNamara Surgical Consulting after a long-standing, successful career where she held senior level leadership positions in surgical services, including with the Mayo Clinic, HealthPartners & Fairview.
Jane knows how to help organizations make sustainable change and how to get results. Jane led her large team throughout the pandemic and was actively involved in daily operational changes that affected surgical services in a unique manner. Jane has a strong operational background and partners with her clients.
● Utilizing data-driven decision making Jane led the redesign of OR block schedules at many locations, including community hospitals and large academic sites
● Modernized the surgical committee structure to a new governance structure, that included surgeons and administrative leaders in partnering to lead surgical services
● Has coached, hired, and trained numerous surgical services managers to be successful in their roles and advance their careers
● Successfully led the surgery implementation taskforce at a large academic center to adopt the Minnesota Hospital Association (MHA) Time Out Surgical Checklist. This included over 500 staff and 100 surgeons
● Improved first case on-time starts from a 30% baseline to a sustainable 88% with an estimated late case cost savings of $190,000 annually
● Improved turn-over time from average of 44 minutes to 34 minutes at a large Level 1 trauma site and to 21 minutes at an Ambulatory Surgery Center
● Sponsored a Non-Operating Room Anesthesia (NORA) workgroup to establish infrastructure with goals to support volume growth and use of anesthesia resources to meet the business needs of the organization
● Led a regional project to enhance patient safety with the implementation of adjunct count technology at five community hospital sites
● Significantly improved OR specimen handling practices to enhance reliability and reduce error rates
● Successfully addressed and led teams to adopt changes needed to make improvements in response to a reportable event or system failures
● Actively involved in all accreditation surveys and in action plans to address any gaps in meeting standards
